Qcoom CEO M. Ripon Mia has been arrested by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). According to the police, through various offers, Qcoom used to advertise the sale of motorcycles at a lower price; the price of a motorcycle in the market would be Tk 167,000, they advertised to sell that at Tk 120,000. Thus, Qcoom has withheld Tk 397 crore from its customers. According to the DB, many of the victims have been in contact with the police since the arrest of the CEO of Qcoom. Sourav Dey has filed a case with Paltan Police Station. In the statement of case, he has mentioned the names of 15 people including the victim. The amount they owe from QCoom is three crore 30 lakh 39. A case has been filed against Ripon with Paltan police station under digital security law and fraudulence. He was arrested from Dhanmondi on Sunday evening. DMP's Chief Additional Commissioner of Intelligence (DB) KM Hafeez Akhter said this at a press conference held at the media center on Minto Road in the capital on Monday afternoon. Hafiz Akhter said Bangladesh Bank launched the escrow system in June. In this method the buyer's money is deposited at the payment gateway approved by Bangladesh Bank. Foster was the payment gateway to Qcoom. In this method, Qcoom delivered the product to the buyers and submitted the document along with the invoice to Foster. Once the product is handed over, the buyer pays Qcoom. If the buyer does not receive the product, Foster's authorities seize the money. But the buyers neither received any product nor money. The additional commissioner of DB said that the customers of Qcoom can get their money back from the deposited money. However, Ripon said that Qcoom had forfeited Tk 250 crore in the name of selling the motorcycles.
